Art & Design

Lin McNamara - Biography

I'm an artist and designer happily replanted in Baltimore after living in and around DC for over 20 years.

Although I've spent most of my career working in museum exhibit and interior design, I always harbored a love for art, pursuing it as I could. Recently I'm devoting more time and focus into painting. I'm working hard to catch up to my "art hero's" after many years of working in the design field.

My obsession has become the endlessly interesting patterns of the city and the vibrancy of scenes like boatyards and urbanscapes. I love trying to make sense of the chaos and capturing the play of light around objects. I primarily capture studies en plein air, sometimes bringing the painting back to my studio to advance or complete.

Some of the artists that I have been influenced by and admire are: Colley Wisson, Val Lewton,  Jill Basham, Tim Beall, Arthur Streeton, Scott Christianson, Diebenkorn, Thiebaud, Miriam Shapiro, Wolf Kahn, Jacob Kainen, and Sam Gilliam.
